The book was good I must admit - however I was angry at Solange and Niko. I went on a roller coaster ride of emotions I wasn't prepared for. I can deal with murder, assassinations, Mafioso issues, etc... but I don't deal well with messing up a good marriage unnecessarily. Home girl had it all!!!. While hubby was out doing the work of the mob family she could have been traveling, getting an education, starting her on business etc... From what I could read, although Alfonzo came very close he never cheated on his wife, and dude had many attempts to do so but he always thought about his wife. Solange on the other hand was truly in denial about everything. Did she really not think about the cost of it all. We need a blog for these comments because I am new to the series and I don't want to give the "spoilers" away to the newer readers. I was just so angry and she the wife had the nerve not to understand why things could not work out. Did anyone else notice that although Niko was a "mental case literally". He did more for another man’s wife than he did for his own wife. But the flip side to that was I don't really think it was all about the Love thing with Solange either. He was willing to shield his wife from being a part of his life style and wanted her and there twin boys far away from it but didn't mind if Solange was knee deep in it. Weird but very good book!!!!!

Only get's better... yes it does. Atonement was not an easy read... talk about emotional heartache after reading this book. Selange your actions spoke louder than words and yah your actions & choices did this. Alfonzo's reaction to this mess wasn't what I expected and how he handled it was a class act for sure. Vincent...that was a shock didn't see that coming. Nico...I feel for his character I really do but in the end he took an oath and traders should find themselves swimming with the fishes! The author has written another gritty, edgy heartbreaking instalment. I truly love all these colourful characters flaws and all. Alfonzo, my loveable man, you may call her an "adulterous liar" but you still love her and time heals a broken heart. I'm sooo addicted to this series and highly recommend as a must read. 5+ stars.
Let me set the scene...I am walking a shopping strip with my niece. She is trying to buy some but ugly animal print pants and she is in the dressing room. I am reading the ending of Anarchy.....(me) NO!!!! Don't do it. Me not knowing my niece walked out the dressing room. she turned around and went back in the room for another pants. (me)How could you...I have to get the other one. Let's go! (niece) but I am not finish.(me) confused...what are you talking about. This girl done lost her mind and went and cheated on my papi. This is what the work of SW Frank would do to a person.. Drive you to want to drink and get some vasaline to beat a fictional character down. Then I read Atonement....I cried for Al. I cried for Vincent. Where is the loyalty? She was wrong. Al was wrong. But Nico needs his stuff all messed up. But he lost big in this book. But it makes you think. People are so quick to throw a marriage away these days. Love needs to worked on everyday. I want that love from the old days. You made it work till it just to broke to fix. I have become emotionally invested into these characters. Read at your own risk lol. It will have you talking out loud.
I have completed the entire series of Alfonzo to date. I enjoyed Ascension and Anarchy very much, but I especially enjoyed Atonement. Atonement put Alfonzo, Selange, and Nico through a test of a lifetime, including the entire Palazzo-Diaz family. (It's a devasting test of human fraility that none of us would ever, ever want to find ourselves going through, but happens often to us mere mortals). It's called matters of the heart. As for atonement, I do not think anyone has really found total satisfaction for the outcome; hearts are broken, many tears shed, trust forfeited and the threat of death loomed. Some of the ties that bind have been severed, allowing all an opportunity to move forward and salvage whatever is left of their shattered lives. I am anxiously awaiting Volume V, Awakening, to assuage my own psyche about the outcome of my favorite characters in this series. At this point I still do not know who I am routing for the most, but time will tell. SW, thanks for a job well done. There was never a dull moment in any of the volumes, but many surprises and some serious "OH NO"! moments. Absolutedly awesome!!
OMG, this book is sooooooo good. I am just so anguished over Selange, Alfonzo and Nico. I actually cried with them. This is the mark of a good writer, one who makes you feel what the characters feel. I still can't get over Selange, how could she do that to her husband. We saw in this story that the characters are fallible human beings who err. I believe what the next book will reveal is if Alfonzo's love enough to forgive? Can Selange forgive herself, can she regain her strength as mother and person? I'm invested in this story and can't wait to read the next in the series.
I had mixed feelings about this book. I love the story; it was well written and had a great flow. The twist and turns had my head spinning, it was great but, the whole Selange and Nico hook up just left a lot to be desired for me. I can understand her feelings and why she cheated on Al, being that he was the only man she had ever been with, she was a little curious but, I guess I didn’t understand why she cheated with Nico and why did she continue for so long? Once ok, you get a pass but they just keep at it like they didn’t have spouses. To me it made no sense, and to have her as the one pursuing him then saying how sorry she was when Al found out and trying to blame him was kind of crazy and I just didn’t understand it. I was so hurt for Al, I almost cried. He was just devastated and the loss of Vincent was a complete shocker. If Vince can die no one is safe. Great job S.W. Frank, although this was not my favorite book in the 15, this is still the best series out there.http//www.thebooklady.typepad.com
